Hey guys and gals,
I just wanted to post some links about my band to generate some ideas about who to target and how to target them.
You could stream my record in it's entirety here: http://thelibertyundergroundba......com/music
After some surveying between friends, family, and Reverbnation...I chose "Never Let Up" as the single and it is what I am giving away in exchange for email addresses.
Here's a link to the band's Facebook page where you could see some pics of the band: https://www.facebook.com/theli.....nderground
So...
-Who would you compare us to?
-What kind of imagery comes to mind when you hear the music? looking for headline ideas
-Was Never Let Up the best choice? If not, why do you think? What do you think is?
-Any other thoughts or suggestions?
If you want to listen to something that sounds like you are getting punched in the face by Alice In Chains and Metallica, suplexed to the ground by Tool and Velvet Revolver, and then picked up and dusted off by the softer sides of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden...then you need to check out one of the most refreshing new hard rock bands in quite some time...-->The Liberty Underground<--
Hey Jon,
I only had a sec to scan songs so take this all with a grain of salt. Yous seem to have two main sounds going on. Some of it is hard driving and some of it is more on the ballady side. Your choice for single was the former so I focused more on those tracks.
-Who would you compare us to?
Maybe Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Metallica? You could possibly replace Metallica with Queens of the Stone Age or even Alice n' Chains at times. But Metallica might drive home more universal ideas. The sound of the heavier stuff made me think of the Band Raging Slab a bit.

Speed, Motorcycles, Semi Trucks and the open road.

I only did a quick scan, but that and the Letdown both jumped out at me. I may have liked your choice better but the letdown had that immediate chunk that connects a lot of people with a sound the understand very well. Depending on how you market your stuff, that could possibly work better, but who knows. One thing you could do if you really wanted to geek out on this stuff is throw up a squeeze page with a player on it and split test each of your top pics for single and see which one gets the most downloads. That would tell you what people really thought. Actions are always louder than words.
Hope that helps a bit.

Skynyrd meets Metallica? Interesting! While I like Skynyrd just fine, I never thought that would come across in my songs! Queens of the stone Age is a good comparison. Never heard of Raging Slab. Definitely gonna check them out now.

Again...very interesting! and spot on now that you say that.

It helps a ton...and its a great idea worth doing. Thanks again John!

The Skynyrd thing was just in the sense that there was a biker, trucker kind of quality to it that made me thinking of something down home like Skynyrd. It wasn't a specific sonic similarity. Glad that helped a bit.

To me, "Never Let Up" sounds like what a James Hetfield solo project's first single would be only because the vocals sound a lot like him and I hear Metallica influence, but with less metal and more hard rock elements.
It made me think of their "Fuel" music video. I visualized hot rods with flames on them.
