Does anyone know if it's possible to import the squeeze page and sales page templates w/out changing the site otherwise?
Twang!
Hi Jimi,
Steve here. Technically it's possible, but I personally wouldn't know all of the necessary steps to import both templates into whichever theme you are currently using.
Is there any reason why you wouldn't use a second domain for the MMM theme template and squeeze page, so that you don't have to touch your current site at all?
Let us know what you're thinking and we'll try to help.
Hi Jimi,
Steve here. Sorry for any confusion, but the sales page template you're referencing is altogether different. To clarify, as part of the MMM Theme template, John has included a "sales page" template. The additional code he gives you in the sales page lesson only allows for you to easily edit in your track previews, onto the default sales page template. In other words it's not a copy n paste that will give you a whole page layout, but instead only the song preview table. It's incomplete by itself. That said, the track preview code can be edited into another wordpress page, regardless of what theme template you are using.
Also, to address your cost concerns, an additional domain will only cost you about $14.00 per year. If you a typical shared hosting account, like John recommends in MMM 3.0, it will not cost you anything additional to host a second site. The only additional login would be a wordpress login for the second site, which easily controls practically every aspect of that second site. Because it's recommended to keep your squeeze pages separated from other content, having this second site is ideal for building your list from, as well as making offers from (with the sales page template), while using your current site for all of the relationship building stuff, since your current site probably looks more like an artistic extension of yourself (many artists are not in love with the MMM theme for looks, but that basic appearance is proven to work for conversions).
This way, you don't have to alter your current site at all. If your sending cold traffic, send them to the list-building site. If they are on your list, send them to the site you currently have. The cost should be limited to the domain cost, assuming you have the type of hosting account that John recommends in the MMM 3.0 course.
To avoid making this sound overly complicated, the reason you can't just copy the guts of the squeeze page template into a new theme, is because the appearance of the page templates is dictated by a central CSS file (style sheet). By pasting a theme template code to another site, you'd have to also have to make a corresponding CSS file, that can be properly read by the squeeze page template, in order to display properly. This is much more complicated than it sounds and we unfortunately cannot offer support for these kinds of design edits.
Another alternative would be to hire a designer to alter your current site's theme and design you page templates similar to the ones in the MMM theme template. That however, could cost more than what you were originally concerned about spending.
I completely understand about not wanting to login to two separate sites, however WordPress makes that really easy to do and to manage.
Let us know how you're making out, of if you need any further clarification.
Hey guys,
Just seeing the discussion and thought Id chime in. Steve may have covered all of this as I only scanned the convo, but the short answer is that there is no way to just add the squeeze page and sale page of the MMM theme to your existing theme. It's simply not how Wordpress works. You could hire a web designer to to create custom page types for your existing site, or you cold install a second Wordpress install on a sub directory of your existing domain.
Alternatively you could sub out your existing template for the MMM template and all of your content would be preserved. It would just be laid out within the MMM template. If you were not happy with anything, you could easily switch back.
Hope that helps.
