Once again, my apologies for the slow response. I'm launching a new product tomorrow and it;s been an insane week of 15 hour work days and I've been a bit slack on the forum. I should be back i the saddle next week.
Gotcha. I think anytime you test two things at once you run the risk of not knowing what is causing what. If it were me, I would pick whatever you think is the most problematic between your squeeze page and your ads, and focus on making tweaks to just the one. Once you feel you've hit a ceiling (or floor) you can move on to testing the next variable. Otherwise you just don't know what is going on.
Don't get me wrong, I believe I suggested that you could go ahead and do that, but I think we need to get back on firmer footing as you proceed.

I was only testing one element at a time ie the SP headline.

Sorry John, Im still unsure about what you suggested the next step was.
Ok, I'm lost here.
You said you were testing ads, while testing your squeeze page headlines at the same time. Isn't that what this whole thread is about? If not, you may need to start over because I'm no longer following.

No, in the beginning of November I ran a traffic campaign using dynamic creative targeting 3 separate interests each in their own ad set. In this campaign I was testing various facebook ad elements like image, text, description etc.
Then I turned that campaign off once I had enough data and ran a new campaign, this time using conversions as my objective and running only the winning elements from the previous dynamic creative campaign Ive just mentioned, targeting just one target interest, "Young the Giant" in a single ad set not using Dynamic creative. I didn't make any test edits to the facebook ads here. The only experimenting I did during this campaign was testing various squeeze page headlines, one at a time. But you did say some of the squeeze page headlines I tested I hadn't run for long enough to really know for sure. This was the most recent campaign that was getting over a 5% CTR and where the winning squeeze page headline was achieving a conversion rate of 24%, yet I was still unable to get my subscriber costs to under $2. This is the moment I asked you where to go next. As both the fb ad and the squeeze page are doing well.
The only campaign where I was testing the ads and the squeeze page at the same time was like 3 and a half months ago. But I only ran that campaign for about 6 days. (That was the QOTSA audience that didn't work)
Hopefully this brief summary makes it easier to see what has been going on over the past few months.
Ok, I think I'm caught up. My apologies, but this thread is now 6 pages deep and it's hard to keep track of what is what with the topic spread out over so long, while discussing other similar topics in other threads.
But if that is the case then we need to figure out where the weakest link is and try and focus there.
To do that I still need more data.
Lets take your most successful as set and ignore everything else for the moment...
How many impressions did that ad set get?
How many clicks?
What is the click through rate?
How many subscribers?
How much did you spend?
For how long did it run?
What is the relevancy score on that ad? (you need to check the ad level for the relevancy score).
How many people did Facebook predict were in your audience (after adding your demographic info)?
What was your daily budget?
Hopefully I can spot something out of whack.

Yeah sorry it wasn't my intention to make this thread so long. The only thing I can think of to get prices down, is to change the background of my squeeze page to white and to either cut out further demographic info that is too expensive or run a fresh dynamic creative campaign testing more elements. But I'm not sure.
YOUNG THE GIANT (CONVERSION CAMPAIGN)
How many impressions did that ad set get?

Ok, with those stats I feel pretty confident that your ad is pretty tight, and doesn't need changes right now. There is always the possibility that the targeting could still be off, but right now, it actually looks very good.
So that does leave the possibility of the squeeze page. The simplest way (that I can think of) to test it, without undoing what you have, would be to install a second wordpress install on the same url and use the default theme as a starting point. Test that squeeze page and see how it performs by comparison. Design may or may not be a factor.
One other thing that occurs to me suddenly is that we are in the holidays. Facebook Ads are notoriously more expensive during this time of year, so that could really be a major factor, as a 30% discount in your pricing would have a real impact on your price and get you in range. Around mid January things should return to normal.

How many subscribers would I need from a certain audience to establish if the targeting is a right fit or not? So far out of the 80 subscribers from this Young the Giant audience I have made one sale. What is a good sales conversion rate?

I contacted dreamhost and they referred me to this link regarding doing what you mentioned. I really don't understand what is being said in this article. https://codex.wordpress.org/Gi....._Directory. Also just thought I should mention that I still have a second domain, jeanmorrison.net, which is active but I'm not using it. That domain has the default white background but is using the MMM 3.0 theme. Not sure if there is a way to incorporate that into my main jeanmorrisonmusic.com/free-music URL

Awesome, will resume ads in the new year then.
Hi Jean,
The average conversion rate I see is 4% - 6%. But it varies from nothing to 30%. 80 is not statistical significance, but it's also an indicator that things are not likely converting as well as they need to.
Adding a second install of wordpress is very simple. This lesson is 7 years old, but it shows you how it's done. The second video here: https://www.mmmanifesto.com/in.....rcle/july/ - Things might look a tad different but they are pretty much the same.
Cheers.

Hey John
Just a quick one, in order to get just my squeeze page back to the default theme do you still recommend adding a second install of wordpress? This thread is now over two years old, so just wanted to check. Thanks
Jean
Hi Jean,
I'm not sure what you mean exactly. I would not normally recommend reinstalling wordpress just to get back to the default. I normally only recommend that when someone has messed with the code and doesn't know what they have done or how to fix it. Perhaps I am forgetting the context.
There is a "reset" option in the theme. Just click on the customize and scroll to the last option that says "reset" that will reset all the theme options, but won't reset anything that messed with in the core files, nor will it delete your content.
Always a good idea to back things up first though, just in case there are consequences you had not considered.

Hey John
No worries, so the context of this was that I was trying to improve my squeeze page conversion rate by changing my squeeze page to the default theme while keeping everything else on the site the same designed look, so not undoing things. The designed background of my SP is just a possible variable limiting my conversion rate to 24%. So your answer was to do a second install of wordpress on my site "and use the default theme as a starting point"

Ah, ok, now I remember.
Well, if you have any coding skills then it would technically be simpler to do something like this: https://cleversequence.com/how.....wordpress/ - but that is above my head so the workaround would be to just install wordpress twice and use the default theme on the second install. That would not involve any new skills, but it would mean that you had two wordpress installs to manage. Not a big deal but a little extra work in terms of updates. You could eventually delete the duplicate.
To keep all of your content you can just export all of the posts and pages and then import them on the new site. That can have some negative SEO consequences is the only thing, so you might just dial in the squeeze page and leave the content on your original site. That way your original email funnel will still work and you don't need to clone two funnels as well.

I don't have coding skills but that link you sent seems pretty step by step and seems to be the better approach in the long run so I'll give that a go. Thanks man
Ok, if you're comfortable with that then give it a go. Cheers.

Hey Jean,
Was checking this topic. In order to do the A/B test you're trying to do, I think an even simpler way would be to use Google Optimize. https://marketingplatform.goog.....ptimize/
I don't know if John would agree
Hey Darknight, unless I'm misunderstanding, I don't think you can use Google optimizer to do what Jean is trying to do. He is trying to change the design of one page without impacting the design of the others. While he could use Google optimizer for the split testing, it wouldn't help with the design test he wants to try. And in terms of split testing, I consider Google Optimizer to be relatively advanced and not the simplest way to do a basic split test. But a cool tool, for sure.

Hey John
So Ive been attempting to change the background colour of just my squeeze page to white using the following link you sent. https://cleversequence.com/how.....wordpress/
Ive followed everything step by step and eventually found out that it was changing the background color but it was only changing the colour behind the design, which is obviously not useful. I'm not sure why that is. Ive attached what it looks like with the white background behind the brown designed background when I keep scrolling at the bottom of the page and Ive also attached what it looked like before I made the changes when doing the same thing. This is how I know the background changes were made but not in the way I had hoped. If there is a different css command for the layer above this (row 2) that can change, do you know what that is? Could it be called "Main background color"?
Ive also attached screenshots of my current background settings in the customiser section for reference. Any help with this would be great. Thanks John
