Hey John and fellow musicians
I'm Darknight, Instrumental Alternative Rock composer. I'm new to the Insider Circle, good to be here!
I'm currently using a different squeeze page style than the one used by John (as I use Shopify and I use mainly "organic" traffic). But after a quick email exchange with John, I understand better why he uses this precise landing page model, and I might give it a try.
So here's my current struggle, I'm quite bad and describing my own music, and even more at telling what emotions it conveys, or what "previous passions" of my listeners it could speak to.
It's instrumental, it's long (10min) and it's melody and variation-rich, it's guitar-based, it's unique, but could be labeled "prog rock".
But these are features, not emotions.
My fans are generally fans of prog rock, grunge, instrumental rock and even celtic music (there are some celtic touches in my composing style)
Here's a single of mine that summarizes my music style :
Based on these infos and the music, what experience do you think my music offer, and what could I write in this headline that conveys it while speaking to the preexisting passions and interest of my audience?
Cheers,
Darknight
H Darknight,
Well, lets see...
As I listen to it, these are thoughts I have...
It is very reminiscent of metal, without actually being "meta"l.
It's acoustic based.
It's instrumental.
It creates soundscapes with a nearly medieval feel (which is probably why it appeals to fans of Celtic music).
The blues pentatonic-based solos also remind me of more mainstream rock.
So, if I was to then summarize that in a simple sentence that I could communicate to someone else, I would probably say that Darknight makes acoustic-metal soundscape music.
I think if you got in front of people who liked instrumental music, rock/metal, medieval themes, and communicated a sentence along the lines of what I wrote above (albeit with a little more flare), I think you'd have a pretty good message to market match. At least that is my take.
Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Thanks for the answer John
It's always good to have some fresh perspective on one's music, especially from someone who knows how to market music, and who knows what he's talking about in music too it seems
I'll explore your "soundscape" labeling idea more. Thanks again for your feedback man
