Bonjour,

I am a French Singer Songwriter originally from Paris, France, now based in Portland, Oregon since 2006. I make a living mainly doing gigs.

I am considering signing up to www.gigmasters.com but first I am looking for some feedback.

I was wondering if any of you guys use that website and are happy with it.

Does it bring you any work ?

Many thanks for your help and your feedback.

All the best,

Eric John Kaiser

I have used Gigmasters in the past and it's not what it's cracked up to be. People go on there to "low-ball" you so you're not necessarily getting the quality of customer you want. I had people asking me to learn songs, if I could do this, and that, and then want me to show up for the wedding reheasal the day before (on my dime) and when I say "that wasn't included in our price discussion," They end up spending their money on a DJ. They want you to provide the most amazing experience for the lowest possible compensation.

I think it works far better for other types of entertainment like magicians. They attempt to "commodify" the live performance of music, and music isn't a commodity. It means different things to different people at different events and times, so its value depends a lot on the observer. You really just have to find your market (the people who value what you do) and get in front of it. As far as getting cover gigs, I personally, am going to apply my marketing knowledge that I've learned here with what I've learned from experience. The people that I see who are successful at getting paid to play are just good at networking and marketing themselves, so I will be using that model in the future.

Not saying you shouldn't try it either, you might do great with it!

Just my experience on the matter.

Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with the company. Sorry. Thanks for sharing your experience Tim.
