Hello,
I hope everyone is well. Now that things are opening up again, I'm happy to have some gigs lined up for this summer. People that like my music are usually people from 25-55, that like to travel, good food and good wine (I play a mix of French music with an American feel).
For years, I used to get people to sign up on my mailing list by offering a discount on buying my CDs (For example: If you sign up on my mailing list you get a free CD. So basically 2 for the price of one). I use to play 3 to 5 shows per week. However, during the few gigs I've done recently, that strategy doesn't seem to be working very well anymore (maybe because more and more people have switched to streaming... 🤔 At least a lot of people tell me at shows, that they don't listen to CDs anymore or don't have a CD player in their car).Â
-> I'm looking for new ideas and I was wondering if any of you guys had any tips on how to get people to sign up to my mailing list at shows ? What incentive to offer ? <-
Thanks a lot for your time and your help, looking forward to hearing what you have to say.Â

Hey Eric,
I don't find that people need much incentive at live shows. They just saw you play and the already know if they like your music or not. If they do, even notifications for future shows should be enough. That said, I'd still mention that they will be sent some free digital music, but it might pay to make them exclusive tracks that aren't available anywhere else. I've never had any problem convincing people to sign up to live shows.
If you are having issues with conversions for the reason you mentioned then you may want to explore changing your primary offer to something like a membership site or a Patreon campaign and rely more on that, occasional sales, and streaming. You can still very much get your list to stream your stuff. You'll just make a lot less money and will need some sales to be able to profit with advertising.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer John and for the tips. 🙏 I'll try that and see if it works.Â
I am indeed focusing more and more on promoting my Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/ericjohnkaiser) towards my mailing list. I'm getting some results. Still working on it.Â
Take care,
Eric
That's great Eric. We are not completely there yet, but my expectation for the future is that most artists will make the majority of their income from behind pay walls. Be that Patreon or custom solutions. Good luck.
