Hi John,

I just started targeting lookalike audiences for people who've visited my website, as well as customers, and I'm FINALLY getting conversions for under $1 (and just over $1)! WOOHOO! However, FB is barely showing my ad, not spending near the daily limit I set.

Are there different audience parameters I should set (in terms of numbers) when it comes to Lookalike audiences? At first, I just used the lookalike audiences on their own. Then I added an interest to bring the audience size down to 500,000 or so. It didn't seem to make a difference, so I removed the additional targeting.

I'd love to be able to scale these ads so I can get affordable traffic, but I feel like I'm missing something important in order to get FB to show the ads more...any tips?

Thanks!

That's awesome that you are now getting the cheap subs. Lookalike audiences work pretty well for me as well.

It's very odd to have an audience over 500,000 and not be able to spend your budget. Something doesn't sound right there. It's hard to diagnose without really diving in to your ad dashboard. I would try emailing FB from your ad manager (left hand column) and ask why that is happening. Don't be surprised if the first response is completely unhelpful. Just reply again and ask for clarification. The next reply should be a real person taking more time than just copying and pasting an answer. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks. I looked at FB's help section, and thought that maybe because I had three different ad sets running, all to similar (but not identical) lookalike audiences, that maybe that was why only one ad set was performing. FB says if several ad sets have too similar targeting, often only one ad set will perform, as they don't want to show the same people ads from the same advertiser.

So I turned off all but one ad set (the cheapest conversions, but the one showing the least # of ads). Nothing changed overnight -- it's still barely showing at all, so I emailed FB today. I'll keep you posted.

Here's my first reply from FB (hopefully helpful) -- I took her advice and made new ads (sounds like your advice!). Now these are the only ads running. I'll let you know if this helps...

Thank you for reaching out to the Facebook Support Team. My name is Amber, I called you a few minutes ago but was unable to get through so I left you a voice mail.  I understand how frustrating it must be to see your ads not performing as well as you expect, and I'll be happy to work with you to get the root cause of this sorted out.

While researching your account, I noticed both ads are delivering even though they aren't hitting your daily budget.  I ran your ads through our delivery debugger tool, and it appears that a few budget edits were made to your ads after they were approved which may be impacting your delivery.  Each time you make an edit to an ad, not only will your ad need to go through the review process again, but your ongoing ad delivery and optimization will be negatively impacted in most cases.  To solve for this, I suggest turning off an ad and creating a new one with the changes you'd like to put in place before submitting it rather than editing an existing ad.

It takes about 24 hours for the reporting on your ad to be updated in Ads Manager, so you get an accurate snapshot of the entire day.  In addition, any ads using the same lookalike audience under the same ad set will compete with each other for delivery.  Facebook will favor the ad which performs better. For more information about this intended behavior, visit our Help Center article, 'My ads are similar. Why are they performing differently?' at https://www.facebook.com/busin.....1358874214

Please don't hesitate to reach back out to me with any further questions or concerns regarding this issue. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Please help us improve by taking a few minutes to complete a brief survey about your experience with me. You'll receive an email linking to our survey in the next few minutes. I appreciate your feedback, and thank you for contacting Facebook.

Ok, cool. Looks like you;re getting somewhere.

Those are both things I agree with and have tried to stress in training videos...

Whenever something is not working, don't edit the ad and try and save it. Scrap it and start again.

And never have the same audience in different ad sets. Like she says. They will just compete with each other and both may be adversely effected.

Good luck.
