Hi John,

So I'm finally having some luck at the ad level of things - getting clicks for about 30c, actually from a 5 minute video of me singing from my boat !!! The squeeze page isn't converting very well, but I'm actually going to try putting a short video on my squeeze page, as I have a feeling that the kinds of people clicking will respond to that ... but I have quite a few technical questions around this. Thanks in advance for baring with my many inter-related questions- I have the feeling I'm close to hitting on something if I get this right...!

Firstly, a question about the attribution setting. Currently I am optimising for a 1 day click. I find that with these kinds of ads (videos), some people tend to take a little longer to confirm. Typically around half of people confirm on the day, but then around another 30% or so confirm in the days afterwards. I think that will be the pattern here- I'm keeping an eye on it...

But I don't fully understand how to think about the 1 day vs 7 day click thing. What might be my reasons be for starting again and going with a 7 day click setting? Is the thinking that if loads of people aren't confirming for a few days (like, over half), then it's best to optimise for that, as that seems to be the kind of person that's subscribing anyway?

Would you say in my case at the moment, it's best to stick with a 1 day click, as half the people are confirming on the day ?

I also don't understand what the difference is between the 'click' option and the 'click or view' option. These are the options facebook gives you :

7 day click

1 day click

7 day click or view

1 day click or view

Is this important?

I also wondered if there is an issue at all with people putting secondary emails, and not staying engaged, if you go for a 7 day click?

Related to all this, I feel like I have a bit of scope to actually warmly encourage people to do the right thing within the short video on my squeeze page. They will have already just seen a 5 minute song video, and so I am going to try a squeeze page that focuses on being part of the adventure ahead, with more of the same coming their way ... and I could say at the end 'don't forget to put in your best email to stay in the loop!' (I know this approach isn't how you train people in MMM, but am trying my own twist !)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hey Karen,

I answered this on the recent coaching call as the first question I took. I thought it was a good one for all to hear. https://www.mmmanifesto.com/in.....-19-4-3-2/

Hope that's ok.

Thanks for that John, I listened to your reply in the coaching call.

I'm left wondering if facebook does actually count the people who confirm a few days later, if you're optimising for a 1 day click... (this is sometimes that you couldn't remember in the call - can you remember now?). From a recent ad (optimised for 1 day), I can see in Aweber that 36 people confirmed, but facebook has only accounted for 20 people in it's results.... but perhpas this could also be because I turned the ads off, so facebook stopped counting?

But the other thing that crossed my mind is that as my video ad is getting lots of shares, perhaps some of the conversions are from shares, and facebook isn't counting them in results? Is that how it works?

Anyway, I'm going to keep experimenting and keeping an eye on engagement levels.

Thanks !

Karen

Hey Karen,

I'm not remembering saying that or why I would have said it to be honest. Maybe it was 6 AM brain.

As far as I've always known, no, FB would not count a conversion that came in after 1 day if you had 1 day click optimization on. That would be the reason to turn on 7 day click. Unless you were getting a decent number of conversions without it and wanted to optimize for people who confirmed quicker.

If you are seeing a short fall in conversion tracking, then it is most likely due to a combination of delayed tracking due to iOS 14 updates, people opting out of being tracked, organic traffic making up a percentage of it like you mentioned, or good old fashioned FB error.

Historically I have seen about a 10% short fall in conversion tracking.
