Hi John,
So I'm eperimenting a lot with 2 types of ads- one is the type from your training (image) and one is using a video. From recent experiments it actualy looks like I could get some good traction using a video as an ad. I would like to get going with this, but the possible problem is that I am currently running image ads to the audiences I am planning to also serve the video ad to. I'm wondering if it's a problem to serve these 2 different types of ads to the same audience ? Is there some kind of problem with getting 2 different ads competing with each other ?
The audiences are lookalikes (1%) from 6 different countries. Some of them are big audiences like the US but I am also trying countries like Ireland and New Zealand, and since they are so small, I'm guessing it won't be long before people in those countries see an image an when they've already seen the video ad and vice verser... but if I exclude people who have landed on my thanks page, perhaps that sorts it?
Thanks !
Karen
PS Obviously I'll switch off the ads that aren't as successful, be that the country, or type of ad. But ideally I'd like to getting going with the video ads now, as I have all the elements ready (having done dynamic creative)... Something I should probably also mention is that the current image ads are in dynamic creative mode, so will probably be switched off within a few days anyway...

Hey Karen,
I wouldn't worry about serving the video ads to the same audience. I just wouldn't do it at the exact same time. I understand the logic behind your concern but the audiences are still very large (even in the small countries) and the algorithm will decide who should or shouldn't see the ad based on results. I wouldn't personally bother excluding. By doing so you might exclude some of the people most likely to convert.

Hi John, thank you for this. But I'm wondering what you mean about the 'exact same time.' I started image ads 2 days ago so would you say it's ok to start the video ads now too?
The only people I was thinking of excluding is people who have landed on my thanks page already, which I believe updates in real time, so I'm guessing that exclusion would make sense ?! (But any other exclusions not to worry...)
Thanks!
Karen
I mean that I wouldn't run the two different types of ads at the exact same time. If one is running, don't run the other to the same audience or you will effectively be competing against yourself.
The exclusion you mentioned does make sense and many do exactly that. I used to but don't anymore. I have seen that a fair number of existing fans pop in to say nice things and offer social proof. So I leave them in. The algorithm eventually pushes them out, for the most part, since they don't convert.
