I'm still getting the hang of blogging for traffic. However, I thought I'd suggest something to people who are--like I often was--staring at a list of long-tailed keywords and wondering how in the world to start.

Lately, I've been going at it from the opposite direction. I look for something that inspires me to write, and then see how it might relate to my keywords. I often come up with related keywords that I hadn't thought of, which makes it a double bonus -- a better article because I'm inspired and some new keywords.

For example, yesterday I was reading my smooth jazz news feed (if you don't have a feed targeted to your genre, that's a good place to start for inspiration), and I saw that saxophonist Kirk Whalum released a tribute album to John Coltrane. That really intrigued me because those two artists are polar opposites. The album is called Romance Language. Wouldn't you know it? "Romantic sax music" has a lot of searches and not much competition. I hadn't thought of that keyword.

Everytime I share a new blog post with my social networks, I get new subscribers. I've only had my new personal blog a few days, so I haven't even had a chance to rank yet, but I'm seeing results already. If you're interested, HERE is the article. (BTW, this is NOT the new authority site I was talking about in THIS THREAD. The authority site is undergoing a cosmetic re-design, so I'm not posting content there for the time being.)

Good stuff Charley. Glad to hear you're getting results already. I do that a lot as well. Just come up with something i want to write about and then look at my keywords and see which one I could use in the headline. But I do find that the keywords themselves can inspire ideas too.

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Click here to book a session with me now.

Here's another helpful tool for breaking writer's blog and for finding cool keywords. This site comes up with a pile of longtail keywords that you may not of considered based on Google suggest and it's 100% free.

Incidentally, I just decided to throw a small "HOTH3" package at my blog site tonight. (Yes, I've got my authority site on a separate IP Wink). I'm curious to see how it will do. I don't have a lot invested in my blog yet and I can always build another one if Google retaliates. I'll let ya know!

Awesome. I like thehoth. I plan to roll out a number of test sites soon with plans from them. Give it some time but post your results in the case study forum once you have some.

I will definitely do that. They're not scheduled to deliver until September 11. So far, I'm impressed. I don't have any results yet; however, they are very good at explaining what you will get, when you will get it, and what they can and cannot promise. They appear to be quality links for a good price--not a gazillion of them-- but the kind of stuff that I would want to do if I had the time. Anyway...I will let you all know when I have some results to share.

Colour me curious as well Charley. I'd like to see how thehoth works for you and what your take on working with them is like.
