Anyone care to be my guinea pig?

Let me explain….

I’m not a musician, I’m an attorney and internet marketer.  My daughter is a singer/songwriter (http://www.reverbnation.com/ta.....olsonsings) and before leaving for a study abroad in September she nearly completed her first EP.  When she returns she’s going to finish it up and then we’re going to get her career started using John’s methods.

In the meantime I recently added a new toy to my IM arsenal.  I didn’t buy it with music marketing in mind, but the other day it hit me that it might be useful in that regard.

The toy I’m talking about is a facebook webinar player.  It is designed for marketers to take advantage of the viral power of Facebook when they do webinar replays.  In theory they can drive traffic to the webinar to get it started and then sit back and watch the audience grow virally.

I’ve been pondering the possible application of the system to marketing music.  The video could be any of a number of things, really, it wouldn’t have to be a traditional webinar.  It could be the artist making a pitch for a free download, talking about his music, or doing a mini concert.

Basically what you would have is a video squeeze page that taps into the viral power of Facebook.  The viewer is automatically added to your email list when he agrees to watch the webinar.  There is also a feature where you can offer an incentive for inviting friends (another free download perhaps…..).  If the viewer posts a comment, that also goes on his wall for his friends to see.

Here is the deal.  I’m looking for a guinea pig one whom I can try the system out.  I’d like to set up one or two of you in the system as a test.  Maybe one person doing a short video squeeze page type video and another doing a longer video where you play some of your music live in front of the camera and talk to the viewer.  Maybe a third where we play an existing music video.

Anyone interested?

BTW, the system is called FBWebinars.  They have a webinar explaining the system at http://bit.ly/oPMaut (that’s an affiliate link, but I’m not trying to sell you guys on this, that is the link they give me).

Hi Mark,

I wrote a post on the blog a while back that touched on this same idea: http://www.musicmarketingmanif.....t-concert/

Let me know how your experiment goes.

John

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

I just followed the link to FBWebinars and watched the presentation. Seems kinda spendy! Anybody else check this out? I would be interested in hearing more about how this is working for you, Mark. Thanks for sharing it!

Hey Mark,

Question, is that an affiliate link? I can see the redirect is https://apps.facebook.com/fbwe.....s_mv/?u=af f273 but haven't had time to look into it. Looked like an affiliate ID tagged on at the end

I don't mind affiliate or self serving links but I'd like them in the sig links. Not trying to jump on you or anything, just trying to look out for everyone and make sure everything is fully disclosed. Trying to keep this a pretty-pitch free environment other than the sigs. Just do me a favor on this one and disclose it if it is.

Hey John,

Mark actually did disclose this as being an affiliate at the bottom of the initial post.

Ah, I totally missed that. I'll leave this up but I'm gonna ask that there be no more affiliate links in the posts themselves. But it's totally cool in the sig links. I just want to be sure all the sharing of 3rd party sites is not in any way financially motivated.

Sorry about that.  I was worried about posting the affiliate link. I'm really not trying to sell it but that is the link they give me to the presentation (yes, they give me a bit.ly link), which is done via their FB player.

I'll be in touch with you guys about being my guinea pigs.  I'll headed out on vacation in a couple of days and I'll have limited internet access, but I'll try to get emails out before I leave.

No problem Mark. I've just seen an uptick in affiliate links lately and just really want to keep an eye on it.
