Hi John,

A promotions company contacted me that wants to feature my band Olio in an upcoming mailing.  Once a month they mail out artist/band promo materials (cd's, stickers, posters) to their subscriber list of over 2,000 music lovers. Most of the subscribers are located in the US, only about 8% are located in Canada. Genres that the subscribers enjoy varies, anything from punk rock to indie to country. About 50% of the subscribers are aged 18-24 and 35% 25-34.  I guess the rest are over 35.  My band is a power trio that's a mix of rock/funk/pop. Similar bands/artists are Maroon 5, Vintage Trouble, Lenny Kravitz and The Police. Typically our fans start at 25 on up.  This could be an inexpensive way of grabbing some more people to my list.

I want to drive those subscribers to my squeeze page.  Should I make post cards or digital download cards that essentially look like a FB ad to drive those people to my squeeze page?  I also have key chains with our custom guitar picks inside as an option to attach to the post cards.  Thoughts? Strategies?

Thanks!

Arif

Hey Arif,

I personally like the idea of coming up with a download card that looks something like one of those Starbucks download cards. I would include a fake download code on the card and I would create a dedicated squeeze page for them to claim the download. I would just use aweber to collect their information and I would create an extra field for the code. Aweber will pass the code the enter to you and while it won't actually do anything, it could be used for tracking purposes so you know where people came from. Other than that it would just be a regular squeeze page, at least from a functional point of view.

My only question though is what are they charging you for this? 2000 people really isn't that much, and you are only likely to get a small response. You want to make sure it's worth the energy and cost of whatever they are charging. If it's free then you have nothing to lose. If they charge, I can't help but wonder if you might get better results from a regular old Facebook Ad.

Awesome. Good luck with that. Be sure to share the results.
