Hey guys, just a quick traffic tip today...

As many of you know, the search engines can offer a lot of traffic for the right keyword. And the key to ranking for a keyword is to create authority for your web page in the eyes of the search engines. This boils down to having quality content and building or attracting backlinks to your page.

One way to bypass many weeks or months worth of work, money and risk is to use the existing authority of another site to rank for a keyword. What site has more authority that Amazon? One possible strategy, especially for artists who have a large catalog of material to draw from, is to take existing songs that fit an in demand genre and related keywords (IE, "acoustic music", or "funny Christmas songs", or anything else that gets decent search volume ) and create an album with it. Regardless of whether or not the tracks have been used on other compilations. Name that album something that is very keyword centric. Maybe even just title it after the exact keyword itself. Then release it via CD Baby, getting it on Amazon and everywhere else for that matter. Then go out and build a few quality backlinks to the Amazon page where your album resides using your album title as the anchor text and using the standard strategies you can learn in my SEO modules.

While nothing is guaranteed in the world of SEO, this would GREATLY improve your chances of landing a good ranking in Google for that specific keyword, and probably land you some sales just from being in the Amazon, iTunes, etc, database.

The principle is very similar to the reasons the Youtube strategy works. The existing authority of Amazon is so large that many of the filters that get the average site in trouble simply don't factor in, and the existing authority of the site propels you ahead of the rest of the competing sites with much less link building effort.

Something to consider at any rate.

Wow.  That is cool.  I have to think if I have a grouping of material that might work for.  I use nimbit for my distribution...need to see if they associate with Amazon because I can't remember. Thanks, John.

Glad you liked it. Really it applies to just about any authority site. CD Baby, itunes, etc. But I think Amazon is the best for this kind of piggy back SEO.

John, this sounds like a very cool idea, I am definitely gonna do that. I am trying to rank for "chill out music" which is really broad and I have five youtube sites on top of google for that keyword. But this might help perhaps.

Those quality backlinks, how do one get hold of those? I am looking into fiverr and have no idea who to choose...and not sure what I am getting. Do you have someone you can recommend possibly? Sorry, this should probably be another thread. I actually searched for backlinks.. thnx

Hey Christian,

You wouldn't get "quality" links from fiverr, but there are many services out there where you can. Fiverr is more for mass amounts of cheap links for sites you don't personally own. Would you mind starting another thread with that question, and I'll dig up a list of sources.
