As of two days ago, when I try to send a direct message to folks on Twitter after they follow, I get an error message that says "sorry, an error occurred while sending this message"
I found an article on google http://mashable.com/2013/10/17.....nk-glitch/ that mentions a recent Twitter update that doesn't allow links in direct messages unless your account is verified. Does anyone have any ideas? Most of the traffic I get from Twitter comes from the link to the squeeze page in the direct message after someone follows. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!
Darrell
Hey Darrell,
Looks like Twitter just changed their rules in terms of links in DMs. This is just a few days old so the dust is still settling. Here is a link to an article about it: http://www.digitaltrends.com/s.....ks-in-dms/
Have you tried removing the http://www.? It won't be hyperlinked, but my guess is that copying and pasting a url won't slow people down too dramatically. Try and let me know how it effects things.
Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? John,
That still leaves it linked, as does http://delanastevens.net
What I ended up doing was typing it as delanastevens DOT net
and that works. Definitely not preferred, but I guess it's better than not sending it at all.
Good to know, and agreed. Let us know how this effects your conversions.

Hi!
They seem to have changed it back, so links are allowed again.

Awesome, that will make a lot of people happy.

Here's how I've been negotiating that issue. They will allow a link on your home page (you can see what mine looks like at: Tweets by charleylanger) AND they also allow you to send a link to a Twitter page in a DM. So my messages are variations on:
Nice to meet you! I've got a free copy of my single for you at the link on my profile page: Tweets by charleylanger
It seems to be working ok. Not as well as it used to work when I could send people directly. But, I think people are most likely to click a mouse twice than type in a URL.
Well...ok...things continue to change! LOL! Welcome to the weird and wonderful web!! My DMs started getting rejected again. Now it seems that they don't like the https://twitter.com part of the link. They are ok with @charleylanger, and the user name does convert to a clickable link. Again, being clickable is key, IMHO. So, I now do variations on:
Nice to meet you! I've got a free copy of my single for you at the link on my profile page. @charleylanger
Hope this makes sense...
Thanks Charley. i do hear from a lot of people that have success just typing mysite (dot) com. If people are interested enough I'd expect a good chunk to take the two seconds. Might be less confusing then hoping they will figure out what link you are referring to.
