Hey everyone,

I know that John's main approach is to use Wordpress for a blog or membership site and html for squeeze pages – others (like myself) may want to use Wordpress to create squeeze pages as well.

However, if you've ever attempted to create a squeeze page with Wordpress, you'll know that it can be frustrating and the end result can be quite lame. Attempting to cut and paste from an HTML editor like Komposer into the HTML tab in Wordpress seems like it should work, but rarely does it go the way you'd hope.

I put together a post that goes over some options with a resource to a really cool solution that's may be worth exploring if you really want to create Wordpress Squeeze pages quickly and easily. I share some of what I've learned trying to make squeeze pages work in Wordpress and I think it might help some people here that are interested in an alternative.

Full disclosure – there's an affiliate link at the end of the post, but you can easily Google the name of the product if you want to bypass it. I haven't purchased this product (yet) as I have a theme that has squeeze page and sales letter functionality – however I will be grabbing a copy soon since I think it offers a ton of value and options.

With that out of the way, here's the link:

As someone who has the squeeze page thing down pretty well, but absolutely hates doing it because of the unseen problems you can run into with coding, this looks like it's worth the price.

Great article, Mike.  I had no idea that indiebandalliance.com was your site.  Great stuff, bro!

Hey Steve,

Glad you liked the resource. As you're well aware - squeeze pages are sort of the 'lynch pin' that holds internet marketing together and everything that John is sharing with musicians here and in the Music Marketing Manifesto products.

I know I've been slow to adopt squeeze pages because of the hassles of getting them to work with Wordpress and I saw other musicians struggling with squeeze page integration so I hoped this would help.

The Indie Band Alliance has been my passion project for several years, all about helping my fellow musicians with the takeaways that I've learned from my time in the trenches. One of these days I'll actually get a signature up for it in here!Wink

Hey Mike,

Great article, that plugin sounds like a huge time saver. I actually like figuring out how to build these things by hand, which is a good thing since my budget is generally neighbors with nill. For cheap bastards like myself learning the basics of CSS (instead of tables) can get you a long way in squeeze page land.

But, the value in the tested pages is great, and the ability to field test a number of page formats is huge. Those two things make it very enticing indeed.

Great stuff! I'm definitely going to keep an eye on your blog!

Yeah I agree with you Daniel however... making websites really sucks! (In my opinion at least)

I'm just like you, I had to learn html and css from scratch in order to make my sites and I really don't like it, mostly because it's not the most effective use of my time.

So now that I have a basic understanding of html and css I'm a lot faster at making pages, but again, it's not my strong-suit.

I'd rather focus on the content and systems.

Another thing y'all might find useful (because it was a quick fix to a snag I had this week) is a wordpress plugin called "Raw HTML"

The reason I started using it is because I wanted to drop an opt-in box inside of a worpress post (not on the sidebar, but in the post itself) and I noticed that, for some strange reason, wordpress was inserting break tags <br/> between my form labels and form fields.

Just to clarify, this meant that where I had coded the "Name" to show up next to the input field, wordpress was automatically bumping the input field to the next line so the "Name" appeared on the line above it.  Made it look like shit to be honest.

So the Raw HTML plugin allows you to use the [raw]...[/raw] tags around your form code and preserve the original coding of it, so it looks as you intended it to look.

Easy peasy

Hi Daniel and thanks for checking out my blog.

Kudos for grappling with the basics of CSS, I know enough html to be dangerous and that's about it. I do think it's best to learn the basics and then outsource/out task it so that you can focus on creating more content (in this case music) and marketing it - that's where the income is made. It's way too easy for me to get bogged down in the details and rarely does it end up benefiting the project.

Having limited time and budget means zeroing in on where you can do the most 'damage' with the time you have. I know that I need to put more focus into the actual marketing then 'pissing around' with the tech stuff. As much as I'm a marketing enthusiast these days I still need to do more of it, the creation part comes easy...but the 'getting it out there to the world' part I still need to master. The more time I work on that instead of meddling around with squeeze pages or anything else the sucks away my precious time the better off I'll be.

Hey Steve – thanks for sharing that plugin, sounds like it could come in handy should I need to cobble something together in Wordpress on the fly.

If you guys are looking to create squeeze pages in wordpress there are also a ton of wordpress templates out there specifically for squeeze pages. I sometimes use optimize press but it's about $100. There are plenty of free ones as well. Here is one that looks decent: http://wordpresssqueezepage.com/

Hey John,

That looks like a great resource - especially if someone is setting up a dedicated domain for a squeeze page only.

The resource I mentioned in my post is a plugin so it works with any Wordpress theme - so you could incorporate it into your main music site if you like without it changing the look of the rest of your site.
