Hi guys,
John is recomending the Audioplayer-plugin by Martin Laine. It's not showing up directly in the plugin-search (as of October 17 which is, I know, months after John posted the info); what are your experiences with this one? Does it show on non-flash-supporting devices as well? Or could you maybe recommend another simple audio player that shows on iPads etc as well?
Hey Helene,
I did a check about 4 days ago and I saw it in the wordpress plugin directory. It should come up. But perhaps something has recently changed.
Just to clarify though... I wasn't recommending it exactly. It's actually a pretty basic and unexciting player. But it's what I use a lot and it works. I'm sure there are better.
Here is an article I found that lists 10 different players. It may help:

Hi John,
thanks for the link with the audio players. I have now actually tried a number of audio players for wp and haven't found any that works with html as well as flash that actually works when it is installed. (It's not just me, in the comments most of them are marked as broken).
On the list above, most of the players were flash only, and I would love it if my site would play on ipads etc as well...
If anyone knows ANY html-or other audio player that works-PLEASE let me know!
Here are a few more. I believe all but one has a fee.

http://www.longtailvideo.com/p.....lv-player/ - unclear if they offer an audio player or just a video player.
I've used the first two.
Here is another idea...
Just go buy a cool image of a boom box or something from istockphoto.com and add your music to the image. You can even buy moving images like record players, etc. Then just upload it to youtube and use that as your audio player.
There is even a way to add chapters to your youtube video (I haven't personally done that) but you could create a chapter for each song and link to each one from the video itself. I believe you would need to use annotations or something to do that but then just not include any text. You'd have too play with it to figure out how to do the chapters, but I know I've seen it done. If it was just a single song that wouldn't be an issue.
I also can't help but wonder what would happen if you changed the video dimensions to 0 for both width and height. It may just leave the player and give you the classic audio player look. But again, I haven't tried that.

Thank you for you fast reply, John!
I didn't have problems with the appearance of these darn player; that was about all that actually worked. But now I have some more things to try out! At this point, having tried so many out; I don't care if I have to pay for the player 😉
Thanks again!
Helene
It is odd that there isn't a more ideal player out there. I've looked for years and never really found anything perfect that wasn't a nightmare to configure. Bring Your Own Audio is pretty good but I don't think the monthly fee is justified. I used them for a while and then bailed because of it.
