Hi Segs,
Steve here. This isn't a theme function, but a Wordpress function. Just check the privacy settings on a page, as you're about to publish it. There's an option to keep a page password protected.

To add to what Steve said, if you just look above the "publish" button in your post editor you will see a visibility link. Click on that and you will see an option to password protect the page.
