Hi!

I've received a couple of messages from people who are having trouble downloading the free songs when usin mobile phones. They go to my thank you page with the download, click the link, and nothing happens. As far as I know it's only been an issue with mobile phones. Someone had a problem opening the .zip on the phone, but I managed to sort that out.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar problem? And is there by any chance a solution?

Cheers,

Elmo

Hi Elmo,

Steve here from support.

This is a known issue with iPads and iPhones.  The small of it is that these devices do not have a native utility app for zipping/unzipping files.  You'll either need to recommend they install an app to do so, or you can check out the IC Lesson from November, 2014, which outlines a work-around for these subscribers and customers:

Let us know how you make out.

Hi Steve!

Thanks for your reply. The person who had a problem had the problem that nothing happened when she clicked the link. It didn't even download the zip. I did recommend an app for someone who had trouble unzipping the file, and that worked fine. But the issue here was that nothing happened when the person clicked the link. Is it still a case of not having the app for unzipping?

Cheers,

Elmo

Hi Elmo,

Actually that sounds more to me like the link was not active, meaning it was plain-text and not click-able.  In that case a person only needs to paste the url into their browser and the download should work.

Sometimes people's email accounts automatically disable hyperlinks, so that they appears as just text, but you can't click it.

That's what this sounds like to me, but it could be something else I guess.

I just had a second person, again with an iPhone, complain about the same problem.

Working on getting the exact details.

Cheers,

Hey Elmo,

Like Steve mentioned, nearly all mobile devices cannot download MP3s or Zip files without the help of an app.

You have a couple of options...

You can use the technique that Steve mentioned which is in the "Smart Phone Delivery Hack Lesson", or you can just provide instructions for all users in the welcome email or on the download page. That's what I usually do.

Here's an approximation of an email that I send out to a clients subscribers after they sign up. I'v Xd out names and info.

Hey {!firstname_fix},

XXXX XXXXXXXX here.

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to XXXXX's
latest single.
.
You can download the track to your DESKTOP here:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Simply unzip the folder and, then drag and drop the files
into your iTunes or any other appropriate folder.

If you are accessing this page via a MOBILE DEVICE just use
the download app of your choice to save the track to your
phone or tablet.

Or of you prefer, here is a direct link to the MP3 file
which will allow you to listen now:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

... and so on.

Hope that helps.

Hi and thanks for the helpful response to both of you.

I put some info on the thankyou page. That should sort it.

Cheers!
