Hey John
Sorry for the multiple questions here in the insiders circle. I've just spent the last 3 hours trying to embed a facebook video in a blog post. I know right..
It displays and works fine on desktop but only appears as a block that is unclickable on mobile whether on safari or chrome. Any ideas on what I'm missing?
Here is the link to the post.
Thanks John
Hey Jean,
Your video appears to be embedded fine to me. I was able to watch it without issue. Did you solve the problem?

Hey Jean, I see what you mean. I tested it on my mobile and am getting the same thing. Have you edited the embed code at all? Perhaps to allow for the a-typical aspect ration of your video?
I am not having any issues with my facebook embeds on the same mobile browser, but they are a normal aspect ratio. I suspect that the issue is your video embed size. Not sure why that would cause the issue but I think that's likely it. You might confirm this by taking a normal video and embedding it with no messing with the code and see if it works.

Hey John
I tried embedding a standard 16:9 facebook video as a test with no issues on mobile or desktop like you suggested. The problem seems to be only with portrait facebook videos display issues on mobile. Ive tried downloading plugins, adjusting width and height numbers in the embed code, various google questions but I cant seems to fix this and I can't begin advertising until this is sorted as this is my second blog post in my funnel. It definitely seems to be a Wordpress bug though.
I would re-edit the video to be consistent with standard aspect ratios. I don't think your going to find an easy way around this one. I'm sure a coder could at least tell you what was going on, but recutting the video will be a simpler solution.

Hey John
I think the issue is with the themes standard 16:9 video format rule. No worries though, I settled for just adjusting the scrolling code to "yes" and included instructions on how to view the video on a mobile device. So it'll work.
Hey Jean,
I'm not aware of that issue but it's such an a-typical aspect ratio that it may just be that no one has tried it and it's never come up. Glad you found a fix. My advice is still to recut the video so it is a more standard aspect ratio and no scrolling is required and you minimize the potential for confusion. But it's totally your call. However, be mindful of the recommendation in case views are low or there are engagement issues.
Good luck with it though.

With instagram stories and all that new stuff nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if that portrait aspect ratio has become the standard these days with online videos. Or maybe not.
Yeah it's not the ideal situation with those viewing instructions but the video has over 2k views purely organically so wanted to build on that, also because its a Jeff Buckley classic cover, it'll be useful for retargeting purposes later on. But I will monitor stats and make changes accordingly if need be. Thanks so much John 🙂
Cool. It's not at all the standard for embeds and it's very rare to see it. It is not uncommon in one's social feed though. But embedding creates other display issues, such as the need to scroll in your case, which would concern me a little. But give it a go.
One thing to be aware of, in case your not, post iOS 14 Facebook can no longer include viewers in a custom audience who view the video in the audience network. So make sure you keep your targeting limited to FB and IG. I mentioned this in the last coaching call but thought I should mention it in case you missed it.

I'll give it a try and keep an eye of stats. I remember you speaking of something recently about monitoring stats on your site almost in real time, can't remember where I heard you say that but I think it was a plugin you were referring to, what was the name of that plugin again?
I missed the coaching call but thanks for the heads up I'll definitely go back and have a listen.
It's a stats service called clicky. Click here to see what they are about. They have pretty cool real time spying and you can set notifications every time someone lands on a specific page, which is kinda fun.

Oh! Ive already got clicky. Never knew it was that detailed. I only have the free version though. I'll dig in deeper and have a look. Thanks
Hi Jean, I believe it's only in the paid version. It's pretty cool to watch people in real time as they add your product to the shopping cart, etc. You can even set sound effects to go off on your computer so you have a cash register sound (or whatever) fire when someone lands on a thank you page... for example.
