Hey there,
So, like a lot of people I wasn't aware of the fact that facebook shutdown their fbml app and now only supports iframe for custom tabs - until I went to create a new landing page for my band. I literally cried out 'awwwww man, why does facebook insist on complicating my life!'
I quickly tried a couple of the free iframe hosting apps, and they were just wonky or totally bloated with features, and I really just wanted to quickly accomplish a few simple goals with a minimum of learning: decent looking landing page, with my bandcamp player and aweber email signup form on it.
I ended up setting up my own custom app (not as hard as it sounds), and building an iframe landing page on my website that looked way better than I expected it to. Needless to say, I also ended up doing more learning than I'd planned for that afternoon.
Here is the result of my labor: The Lovely Savages Facebook (The only reason you wouldn't see the landing page is if you happend to already be a fan. In that unlikely event just click on 'free music' tab on the left)
There is one 'gotcha' that I have solved but not implemented yet. If you happen to have facebook set up to 'use https when possible', instead of my landing page you get a box asking you if you want to turn off https to see the content.... which blows. The short of it is wherever you're hosting your iframe content has to serve https as well. I have worked out the details with my hosting company, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
Anyway, there were several tricks to setting this up and get it to look right that were a bit of a bitch to figure out. (nixing scroll bars, width weirdness/missinformation, etc.) So if anybody is struggling with this, or is interested in giving it a try, I'm happy to share everything I know on the subject.
Checked out your page, landed on the tab immediately without any problems.
Looking good!
I use Rootmusic's BandPage Plus that costs me about $2 a month. I have a first incentive to like the page, unlocking 2 tracks from my upcoming album. Then the header changes to a CTA for my free download.
Wondering if your page might get a better conversion because there is already an aweber box right there...
Hey Jap Jap,
Thanks for the feedback. Your's looks great! The funny thing about my landing page odyssey is that in my irritation with FB I was like "well, they're not going to force me to pay for an iframe host, I'll just do it myself", but in the end in order to get https support I ended up paying exactly $2/mo more to my hosting company. I guess the upside is that I can host as many iframes as I want, which is actually handy for me.
I am curious to find out how having the aweber form right there works out. I need to get better at cultivating facebook fans first - or at least figuring out where to fit fb in the plan.
When I get the urge to mess with landing pages again, I'd like to see if I can figure out how to pull in a twitter feed at the bottom like yours has. That's a cool touch. Cool music too btw.
Hey Daniel, tnx for the compliments. Cool you checked out my music.
I have the same feeling about Facebook right now. I don't think it's generating traffic and sign-ups on it's own, but I'm not really able to measure the conversion since it redirects to my squeeze-page. I could check with analytics where traffic to my squeeze-page comes from, but you can check directly in Aweber how your signup-form is doing, how much views it gets etc...
The FB likes I get right now are all people from my mailinglist that I ask in my mails to leave me a comment. Not really sure where this fits in the whole picture or how it contributes, but it's a good way to be present and a place for fans to communicate with me I guess... Anyway, the $2 are worth the presence 🙂
Adding a Twitter feed to your page shouldn't be hard. Check out this page, maybe it's what you need.
Cheers! Jasper
Hey guys,
I checked out both of your landing pages (and clicked on "like" too!) Both pages look good. I did mine through Reverbnation at no cost, but I still need to figure out how to get my Aweber form for sign ups to replace the Reverbnation form.
The one problem I had, which I think Facebook deserves a swift kick for, is how confusing and unforgiving they have made this whole band page thing. I realise that you have to have a personal profile before you can have a band page. I wanted to apply "Greg Parke Music" to my band page, and keep "Greg Parke" for my profile page. As I was setting up my band page, (and I was very careful that I actually was editing my band page) for some reason Facebook assigned "Greg Parke Music" to my profile page instead. I can cancel "Greg Parke Music" from my profile page, but I cannot use it anywhere else on Facebook. Ever. Period. I had to come up with something different for my band page, so I used "Greg Parke Music Page". It works, but it kind of pisses me off because I use "Greg Parke Music" as a brand for many other things.
I appreciate that Facebook is free, but since it has become so important, for musicians at least, I would be willing to pay a few bucks a month if they would lighten up a bit on their "you made a mistake, now live with it" attitude, and be a little more clear and consistant with how their new features are supposed to work!
I also read somewhere in the proccess of setting up my band page, that all of your friends on your profile page become "likes" on your band page once you have everything set up properly. Has anyone figured this one out?

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?
Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!
Hey Greg, I know your frustration. I wanted to use Jap Jap, but Facebook didn't let me use it. Now it's JapJap (without the space), still don't understand what was the problem.
Your page looks good, but the mailinglist issue bothered me. This is why I didn't use reverbnation. I think it's important for all different channels to work together, and I'm not going to keep up with 2 different mailinglists... For the $2,- this was the perfect solution for me.
I haven't heard about my profile friends being likes. Don't think this is possible. I sent an invitation to my FB friends twice. Some are now likes, most of them aren't... I figured I better leave them alone. If they are my friends and family they don't necessarily have to be interested in my music. Feels good actually to have different friends on different profiles, because now I better understand and feel what to post where as who. Does that make sense? 🙂
Jasper
Yeah, it does make sense. If I can't get my Aweber form to replace the one that is there now I'm going to have to make some changes......providing Facebook will allow it!

The mailing list is one of many reasons why I don't do much with reverbnation - but they do have some cool widgets!
Hey guys,
I just started a new thread on this topic and posted a quick tutorial on how to create your own iframe landing page. I ran through everything pretty quick. Hope it's not too confusing. I'll see about creating a video or something for the blog when I have a sec. I think this would make a great blog post.
Here's the new thread:

Hey Greg,
I'm not sure if you can replace the Reverbnation form with the Aweber form, but I thought I'd mention that you can have a clickable image in your ReverbNation Facebook landing page. I set mine up to go to my squeeze page. I put text on the image that says: "Click for free download"

It's not a big source of traffic, but I get signups. That said, I'm finding John's post on the iframe landing page interesting. I might do that. On the other hand, my Reverbnation one looks pretty cool! Guess the answer to that is to see what gets the most signups.
