Hi there.

I've built my squeeze page and all related content at a new domain (www.barbudosmusic.com), leaving my existing website (www.barbudos.ca) in place. I would like to close down the old website, but we have a lot of off-line materials with the old URL on them... is it possible to automatically redirect anyone who visits http://www.barbudos.ca to http://www.barbudosmusic.com?

Thanks!

Hi Tam,

There are a lot of ways to do that and they differ from web platform to web platform. If you have wordpress you can use a redirect plugin. If your site is an html site then you can download the text file that I have attached below and then change the file extension from .txt to .html (this forum won't allow me to upload a .html file) and rename the file "index". Then open up the file itself and change google.com to the URL you want to redirect to. Then open up your FTP client and and drag the new index file in to your old site's public folder and replace the index file. Make sure you back up the old one before you do this.

If any of this is over your head just go to fiverr.com and pay someone $5 to do it for you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot John. I don't see the .txt attachment though... where should I look? One more thing--our current site is a Bandzoogle site... will I still be able to do it this way?

Thanks again for all your help

Hi Tam, the attachment is at the bottom of the post to the left, just above my banner sig.

As for Bandzoogle, that's a lot more complicated because they are not a traditional host, but you should be able to do it. If you are no longer using them I would get the domain back and move it to whatever host provider you are now using. For $10/year it is probably worth holding on  to it. You can redirect from there. You can call bandzoogle and see if they can help with the process. If it's at all overwhelming you can pay someone to do it for you. May not cost very much. I can refer you to someone if you need assistance.

Great, thanks John. I will talk to Bandzoogle. I'm not sure what's up with the attachment but I didn't even see your banner sig until I turned off my ad blocker. Yes I use an ad blocker--the irony is not lost on me.

Anyway I will talk to Bandzoogle and if I need more help you'll hear from me :)

Thanks again
