How is the Sales Pipe With Comments template intended to be used? As a replacement for the FB comment plugin?

Glad you like the new theme. I dig it as well 🙂
To be honest, I don't use the sales pipe with comments all that often, but there are occasions when I use that page type as a landing page or within a funnel. For example, let's say I have a music video that I want to promote with a "Buy the album" below it.... I might chose that template type so that the traffic I drive there isn't distracted by links to other content, and yet I can still have the social proof that comes with all those comments.
You can still use FB comments with this theme, and I even think it's a good thing to do so. The issue was that FB changed things so often, and so many people had problems with them, that the support requirements were through the roof on FB comments. So for MMM 4, I just went with regular Wordpress comments and left FB comments to users who wanted to take that on themselves. There are pros and cons to both. FB comments will get you more comments. But wordpress comments work better in terms of notifications, so continued dialogue seems to happen more with them. It's kinda 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

I like that scenario of how to use WP comments. Makes me think of the possibility of delivering downloads right on the thank you page after they opt-in - would that be a good scenario to use WP comments?
That's interesting, I never really thought of FB comments being more of a distraction, but it does make them think of FB and I think it directly links them off of my site and onto FB if they click on the icon.
Is there ever a scenario where I would use both WP and FB comments simultaneously?

I don't personally think FB comments are a distraction. I think they are easier to use and I tend to see more comments when I use them. However, I don't seem to see as much follow up on the dialogue. I think it's because FB notifications are much easier to miss.
You could use both. And I used to, but I felt like it was distracting because it created two conversations rather than just one. My preference is to use one or the other.
And yes, you could use a landing page with comments to deliver the downloads. The only fear there is that it would likely lead to a lot more unauthorized sharing of your download links. But probably not as much as many people would imagine.
