Is it normal for PayPal to hold payment? I wouldn't know because I hadn't made a sale until today. :)

But I got an email from someone on my list that he hadn't gotten his download. So I went to PayPal and saw he had paid, but it was being "held" (hours later it still says it is being "reviewed" by PayPal).

I am wondering if:

a) PayPal does this routinely with first-time sales

b) Something is wrong with my setup

c) The confirmation email went to his spam folder and he didn't confirm, so PayPal thinks it isn't legit (not sure PayPal knows if the email is confirmed or not). He was not moved to my Customer List...

d) He knows how to game the system and get free downloads

I manually sent him the email with the download link, then in a separate email asked if he got the confirmation email. Never heard back...

Payment still "Held" today. It says the customer is "unverified". Is this why he didn't get his download? I guess I shouldn't have sent it to him...

Hey John,

I think I've seen that before but it if I did it was so long ago I don't really recall the details. I have had payments held for a few days but it was usually because the person was paying via their bank rather then their paypal balance and so it took a few days, essentially an eCheck. My guess is this will work out and be released in a few days but I'm not sure. Your best bet is to contact Paypal. I'm sure they won't forward them to the customer thank you page (and aweber list) until the payment goes through. Kind of weird that this person didn't get back to you, but music is not really one of those areas where you often see fraud. Let us know what happens.

Thanks John. It's still being held. I'll let you know what happens and contact PayPal if in a few days it isn't cleared up.
