I spent two days working on my new facebook landing page. If you haven't liked my page yet, you go directly to the landing page. If you have liked it, then you go to the wall (click the "Welcome" tab to see the landing page):

http://www.facebook.com/LangerMusic

I thought I'd try doing facebook ads again. I've noticed that the cheapest ads are for page "likes". I figure if they click and go to my page, I have a pretty good landing page to capture them. I'm going to see if that works out being cheaper per signup than making people click through two to three pages to sign up. I'll letcha know!

I'm still working on my video strategy. It takes longer with street team people. Sigh… I don't want to offend the person I enlisted, but I'm about to the point where I just want to hire someone.

Hey Charley,

It took a while to load for me. But I'm in a hotel in Spain at the moment. That may have been why. Internet is so-so.

It looks great. Minor thought, you might try a bolder "send me the song" button, (orange works well), it might draw people's eyes to it a little more.

I talked to my Facebook rep extensively about the cost per clicks and she swears that it's a pure auction and price is not based on whether or not it's a FB landing page or a outside URL, but I've seen the same thing you have with the cost per click as well, as have most people. Not sure what's up there.

With that said, I also had a really poor opt in rate with the FB landing page I tested. But that might just be me. I didn't put as much into my design as you did and I moved on pretty quick and went back to my squeeze page.

Let me know how it goes for you.

Good job.

Hey Charlie,

The landing page looks great!  Ok...it's beautiful!

That being said, I only have one issue, because I had the same thought when I was first putting my squeeze page together. You stated on you webform that "your email address will never be given to anyone" (or something like that) I was going to do that too, but then I thought about joint ventures. If you promise that email addresses or names will never be given to anyone, you really can't share your list with anyone else in a joint venture. Just a thought

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Hey Greg,

Just to clarify how JVs work... You don't actually ever give anyone your email addresses. When you do a JV email blast you send the email out about your JV partner. It's like a mutual endorsement. But they don't get the contact info unless the person actually signs up for their list.

To be compliant with the CAN SPAM act, you can't physically give an email address away. But you can mail on someone's behalf. It works much better that way anyway.

Interestingly, I have heard some people claim that having the disclaimer actually raises awareness of the possibility of spam and causes the conversion rate to drop. I've personally never tested that and I don't know if it's true or not, but it's interesting. Sometimes I use the disclaimer, sometimes I don't. Mostly just based on lazyness.

John,  I have heard the same thing.  I have never tested it though.  However, I do tend to watch what some of the "gurus" do from time to time and the "We Hate Spam" is one I've seen alot, instead of the long "your info is never shared or sold"

As an example though, I don't currently have a disclaimer or a link to a privacy policy and my squeeze page is humming right along.  I might make this my first split test on the page.

Curious...

Oops...Thanks for clarifying that for me John. Right now I'm a good example of "a little knowledge can be dangerous!" But I'm learning, and enjoying the results so far!

Speaking of the We Hate Spam notice, the ad rep from Microsoft Network told me that they could disapprove of my ad if I didn't have a link to a full-blown policy on my squeeze page. Fortunately, they DID approve it. Not sure if they ever go back and re-review. BTW, MS Network is nice to deal with, and I have my cost down to 20 cents per click.

Simple and the ad networks seem to like it too.  🙂

Yeah, FB disapproved some of my ads for not having an email policy in place, and then approved others. It's a human reviewer so it all comes down to what they catch. I would say that with PPC it's a good idea to have the privacy and email policies up so that you don't get your quality score hit, but if the traffic is coming from your own sources, I'd probably just skip it.

Hey Charlie,

Looks good!  Nice track as well!  My suggestions for improvement would be to add a little more margin on both sides of your text and narrow the original page to 520px wide if possible.  That's the max iframe width for a Facebook page.

Thanks, Scott. You're right. I need to add more margin, and I didn't really notice until you mentioned it. Actually, I have the page set to 520px, but it *looks* like it's getting cut off because of the bad margins. Thanks again for pointing that out. I had worked on it so long that I just wanted to be done!

Glad you like the music. We'll be seeing ya 'round!

Hi Charley!

Yes, it does look good!

I tried to sign in, but I couldn't. (As of October 17) Maybe this is a glitch on my side, but just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks Helene. I appreciate the nice comments and the problem report. I do appreciate you letting me know. Hey, I always love problem reports -- especially when I can't duplicate them!! LOL!
