I think someone may have asked this question before, but is it possible that if someone has not signed up
to your mailing list, that when they go to your website, they can only see your squeeze page until they sign up?
Then, once they have signed up, they will see the blog and everything, but not before.
I'm getting frustrated because I hand out my propaganda that directs people to my squeeze page, and it
appears that what they are doing is a search on the band name to find my website and Reverbnation page,
then they can find out about me without signing up.
I always notice a spike in my Reverbnation visits/listens after I put my promo materials out.
Yeah, I think that is a real problem. There are ways to do that but it can get funky when an existing fan is trying to return to your blog but gets the squeeze page. It's sort of a risk either way.
The redirect is fairly simple, but if it were me I would hire someone to make sure it was done correctly. But here's a link that describes it: http://www.stevegoyette.com/ph.....-visitors/ - I have no idea if that is the best way to do it or if that code actually works, but it's an example that should get you started in the right direction.
I'm sure there is a wordpress plugin for this but I can't seem to find one. I'll update you if I do.
Do you not host your squeeze page on the home page? Creating a designated squeeze page site would more or less solve it just as well. But nothing would stop people from going to Google.

Hi Tim.
One thing that comes to mind is, you know how a lot of blogs have that annoying light box that pops up when you visit?
I'm wondering if you couldn't have one scripted that says something like, "You must be registered to view this content. Go ahead and register and we'll also send you some free music." Then have a tick box on it that says "I'm already registered" for folks who might have cleared their cookies, but are already subscribed. That way they can get around it.
Obviously anyone could tick the box and get past the light-box, but I'm sure a good number of people might sign up and not even try to tick the box to get around the light box.
Although I can foresee SEO problems with this, if people hit the back button.
Another thing would be to code something into the site that identifies referral traffic from only the search engines (by domain) and when one of these visitors shows up, have a lightbox pop over and make them a strong offer to sign up right there on the spot. You can also have a "Find out more without signing up" link that takes them to your actual squeeze page.
Just kind of throwing ideas out there, but either way it seems you might run into SEO problems, if people start hitting the back button a ton, but then again you might see an up-tick in subscribers from the search engines.
Steve
Steve brings up a good point about hiring someone to code something up for you. Once you start to really understand this stuff the sky is the limit when it comes to ideas. It's really not that expensive to hire someone to create little scripts for us that can do all kinds of interesting things. Basically, whenever you have an idea that starts with "wouldn't it be cool if..." you can usually hire a freelancer for a surprisingly small amount of money. With that said, there are usually existing scripts and plugins out there as well.

Yes, I do host my squeeze page separately from my blog/website. I could probably code something myself no problem;
I'm quite proficient at JavaScript and HTML, but I don't want people hitting the "back" button either like Steve says.
I didn't think about that possibility.
Maybe a pop-up OTO is the way to go, with a steep discount on the digital version of my first EP. I haven't done
that yet, so maybe that will stop people from skipping the sign up. I'm going to try that and see what my
results are.
Sounds good. let us know what happens.
