Hi All,

I would love to get some feedback on my upsell page because I'm taking a slightly unconventional route (I think).

Instead of offering a CD box set of music, I'm offering my 3 motivational books. I would love to see if you could let me know how it reads to you. As a motivational speaker / singer-songwriter, I want my audience to get the benefit of my books in addition to my songs. The books are actually going to go much further in helping them improve their personal and professional lives, so I want to know if this all seems congruent in the way I've presented the offer.

In short, the upsell (motivational books), is a way of FURTHER helping my clients get closer to the EXPERIENCE of being uplifted and motivated, which is what my songs do for them. Here's the page:

I look forward to your feedback.

Dr. Pelè

PS: fellow learners, please feel free to ask me for reviews of your in-progress work if you'd like. I'm always happy to jump in and help if I can. All the best!Smile

Addendum:

After listening to John's recent Podcast, I noticed an example of an UPSELL from the band: THE EMPTY POCKETS.

The Upsell for their 2 FREE songs download was the REST OF THE SONGS on their full CD.

What are your thoughts on THAT as a strategy?

The way I might do it could be to have two funnel tracks, one for those who download a free CD, and another for those who enter my funnel by actually buying an album at full cost:

FUNNEL 1: (free song)

  1. FREE MOTIVATIONAL SONG
  2. UPSELL OF ENTIRE ALBUM (50% off)

FUNNEL 2: (full album)

  1. FULL MOTIVATIONAL ALBUM
  2. UPSELL OF MOTIVATIONAL BOOK SET

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Dr. Pelè

Hey Dr Pele,

I am a bit trepidations about the idea of selling books as an upsell for a CD, as I usually try to offer something similar but better/faster/cooler. This is just different. That said, it may very well be a huge hit. All you can do is test. But it looks to all be laid out well. It's clear and easy to follow.

I have not tried upselling a free download, but it's something I probably should try testing.

I think anything is worth trying so long as you can manage it all and you don't mind the risk of spending money on what is ultimately a test.

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Thanks so much for your feedback, John.

It really went a long way to help me continue trying to stay focused and 'K.I.S.S.' (keep it simple...)

I have a tendency to over-complicate things, but part of the issue is a challenge I have, which is frankly, outside the scope of your class. I bring it up only because I suspect you've experienced a similar challenge to some degree...and that is, the challenging decision to either put all one's energy in selling music, versus, into selling the other talents one has. In your case, in addition to your music, you have your marketing skills, your training skills etc. etc....which one takes priority, and how are they laid out?

In my case, I'm a musician, who is a motivational speaker, and also a marketing trainer, all things I've done in my career. The challenge is that a person has to stay focused on the CLIENT'S NEEDS, not on whatever talents we may feel we possess.

It looks like I will have to separate my client avatars more clearly. My website will have to sell to 3 different audiences: music (with my songs), motivation (my books), and marketing (with practicee, my training and practice site). I'll just have to NOT mix them up. Keep each offer in its very clearly different lane.

I'll keep battling and testing till I land!!! Smile

Thanks a million!!

Dr. Pelè

I totally hear you. I'm not hear to ever say that you can't mix things up and market different products to the same list, but yeah, it's not the way I would do it.

As you mention, I do multiple things as a musician, marketing consultant, and a beer writer. But each thing is it's own business. And while there is crossover between products within MMM, each one has it's own funnel.

Like you touch on. It really comes down to the customer avatar and the conversation already taking place in their mind. I don't think anyone will do well trying to have two conversations at once. You are either a musician or a self help guy. You can incorporate music into self help, but the way i would promote each one on their own would be very different. That's my two cents anyway.

And don't get me wrong, I think you can promote your books to your music list despite the different nature of each product (or visa versa), I just don't know that they make the ideal upsell. For something like that I would promote them as a stand alone promotion.
