Hi John,
I seem to remember that you had a download option for your Vimeo videos in the Insider Forum (at least for a while after the video was posted).
Do I remember correctly, and if I do, how did you do that? I can't find anything on Vimeo on how to do that (I have the Pro version), but I did find a forum with tons of people complaining about not being able to add a download button to the video.
Cheers,
Elmo
Hey Elmo,
The download option is only available from the Pro level up. Not to be confused with "Plus". I ended up paying an extra $150 ish a year for the upgrade just for the download link option. A bit irritating.
There are two ways you can do it...
You can add a download link to the vimeo video page if you want. I believe you can do this with a Plus account. But this is only when people go directly to the page. It would not help you with embeds. And I can't remember but there may be some default sharing options on that page as well that will work against you if you are trying to create private videos. The only positive here is that the URL for the download link has an experation link on it to cut down on unwanted sharing.
The way I do it with the Pro account is to go to the video settings page and look at the options in the column on the left hand side of the screen. There you will see an option called "video file" if you click on that you will find the url of the video file. I then provide a link to that URL beneath the video, as you'll see with the latest IC lesson. The only negative here is that the URL is not protected and could theoretically be shared. But in my experience this isn't a huge risk. People can also just upload any video to a file sharing network and share it that way, with little additional effort. So at some point you just gotta assume the best of people.
Let me know if that doesn't answer the question.

Thanks for the response John!
The download button would be a good thing, but for some reason Vimeo doesn't have that option.
Well, just have to give direct download links.
Cheers,
Elmo
Yeah, I'm not sure why they don't. Seems like an obvious option some people will want for video embeds. But the direct download link isn't really that hard to work with. You can see how I'm doing it below the most recent IC lesson.
Cheers.
