Hi
I want to verify my wordpress site with Google. I followed the instructions to install a metatag in the header.php file, but that didn't work. Then I tried installing it on the home page between <head> and </head> but that didn't work either.
Is there a tried and tested way of doing this with the MMM theme?
Thanks
Deb
Hi Deb,
Steve here from support.
I'm assuming this is for google analytics or something to that effect?
One thing to consider is that if you've followed the MMM process, your squeeze page is likely at the top level of your site. If this is the case and if you are trying to register yoursite.com, placing the Google script in the header.php file will not work because the squeeze page template does not contain the site's header.php file.
So what you might do is place the google script in your squeeze page's body text, at the very top. However it wouldn't hurt to place it in your Header.php file too, as well as on your sales page, assuming you want the sales page to be included in what you are trying to do.
Let us know if you are still stuck and I'll do a test for myself.
Thanks!
Yes, that's right.
I tried putting it into the squeeze page's body text as well as into the header.php file. It didn't work, but I'm not sure that I put it in the right place on the squeeze page. The instructions said that it should be placed between <head> and </head> , but I couldn't find that in the html for the page.
If you can shed any light on it, that would be great
Deb
Hi Deb,
Try this. Try installing the Google analytics plugin for wordpress becasue it is difficult (probably more like impossible) to find the meta data for singular wordpress pages (head tags, etc.).
Here's a link to it:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....wordpress/
That should sort out the issue for you. The method of placing it in the head tags is more for static html pages.
Let us know how you make out

Hey Deb,
I assume you are asking about meta tags for SEO purposes?
This isn't something you need to worry about so long as you are adding keywords to your posts and have a keyword targeted headline.
You can use something like the yoast SEO plugin to go one step further.
Here's a post on the subject of meta tags from the wordpress codex: https://codex.wordpress.org/Me....._WordPress
scroll down to "re Meta Tags Necessary?".
If you still want to do it there are instructions for that as well. But it would be easier to use a plugin. Just search the plugins for "add meta tags".
But I never personally worry about that and I have done just fine with SEO over the years.

The reason I need to do this is to use the new interactive cards feature on YouTube to link my YouTube videos back to my squeeze page.
i need to link the website to google plus to do this.
I've tried the Yoast plug in that Steve recommended but it's still not authenticating my site with my google account, so I'm a bit stuck.
Any ideas?
Deb
Hi Deb,
Steve here. Okay, I'm going to have to attempt to set this up on my test site, to see if I can give you some step-by-step.
Could you please clarify though, is for Google analytics, or for Google plus (they're likely the same, but just in case they're not)?
Thanks!
Hi Deb,
I haven't run my test yet, but I did a search for this in the wordpress support forum and was directed to this article:
http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-t.....ress-blog/
I'm going to try the method they are recommending, but I have to admit, I'm not clear on it yet either.
Hopefully it works out.
-Steve
Hi Deb,
I also found this plugin n the Wordpress plugin directory:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....ter-tools/
I'm personally more inclined to use this than the previous method I linked to.
-Steve
Thanks, Steve - I'm glad you are on it.
i think the verification is for Google + although I am getting very confused between Googke +, Google Analytics and Google Webmaster!
I'll try the plugin you recommend and see if that does the trick.
Deb
OMG I am soooo excited - it worked! I have a verified site on Google+
Thanks so much for your help.
I am off to see if I can put an interactive card on a YouTube video now - wish me luck!
Deb
I've done it!
There were two more steps. I had to verify the account, because it's fairly new. Then I had to associate the website with the YouTube channel via the advanced settings - that was tricky. Once all that was done, I attached the interactive cards.
I used this tutorial to help with the interactive cards: http://youtu.be/IUMNmfQqnSA
This is the end result -
Thanks for your help. I hope this might help others to navigate their way through this.
Now...back to split testing.
Deb
Thanks!
The video isn't the best. It was put together from footage recorded for another purpose, which was pretty limited and had a lot of camera shake. But my 10 year old did her best to edit it into something acceptable and this is what she came up with.
So, if a 10 year old can do it, anyone can!
Thanks for your help.
Deb
Just as well we got this sorted...
Another video with this artist got picked up by the on-line media 'The San Francisco Globe' and has had well over 30,000 views. We managed to upload interactive cards into it, driving traffic to the squeeze page, but not until after the first 21,000 views - just wish we'd had them set up sooner. Never mind - the views are still coming.
The story about this video has been picked up by the BBC TV and radio and local press, which is all helping to drive traffic. We are up to 132 subscribers last time I looked, which is probably not a brilliant conversion rate as we didn't get to do any optimisation on the squeeze page yet.
The media coverage didn't happen randomly. We brought the video to the attention of the SF Globe - we're just a bit surprised that they ran it! And we contacted the BBC etc. Lesson learnt - get the collateral sorted out ahead of the PR!
It's been a very interesting few days...
Deb
Well done Deb!

Thanks - it just keeps coming.
The video is up to 55,000 views and is syndicating on-line as well as in local print media.
On top of that, we placed the free, unreleased track that is our opt-in 'magnet' onto a blog that features in The Hype Machine (don't know whether that exists outside the UK, it's a network of c800 music bloggers who are considered to be tastemakers and gatekeepers for music lovers) which then made it eligible for their 'hot on Twitter' chart.
So we we embarked on a Twitter-fest over the weekend and the track got to no.1
Now the fact that this artist has a no.1 song on this chart is being featured in local press again, and their on-line publication had a link to the video we made for the song. Which has the interactive cards in it, which link back to the squeeze page.
We are up to 230 subscribers. The numbers are going up steadily. And no, I still haven't managed to split-test and optimise the squeeze page!
The the numbers may not be massive, but from a starting point of zero it feels as though we are making progress and picking up tons of social proof along the way.
We are aiming to release a debut single for this artist in a couple of months time so the proof of the quality of the subscribers will be tested via the sales of that release.
Does that sound like progress? We've certainly got traffic!
Thanks for all your advice
Deb x
That's all you can really ask for Deb. So long as the numbers are moving in the right direction you're doing great. Well done so far.
