Hi John,
I switched my rich content website to a wordpress.org site over a year ago. I found a cool theme called Soundcheck that works really well with audio and blog posts, etc. It also came with a built in commerce template using the Cart66 Lite plugin (free). All fine and good until I decided to fine tune my sales funnel and decided I wanted to use Aweber the way John instructed. Cart66 syncs with my PayPal Standard account but it doesn't sync or create PayPal Buy Buttons which means Aweber can't sync with PayPal. Cart66 hosts my media files and sends out the "download link" emails to my customers after the transaction goes through PayPal. Since I can't have Aweber send out my download links I can't automate my lists properly. Cart66 also blocks the IPN from allowing Aweber and Paypal to communicate. I don't have all the flexibility I need to handle my business properly. Cart66 doesn't integrate with Aweber and from the look of it doesn't plan to. That being said, I would love to keep the look of my store on the site but I need to find a new plugin that I can use PayPal properly with Aweber so I have total control of my sales funnel and prospects and buyers lists. Here's my site http://www.oliomusic.com. What can I use instead of Cart66 that will give me the full functionality with PayPal and Aweber that you teach and maintain the look I have?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Arif
There are quite a few shoppingcart plugins out there for Wordpress. But for security reasons (and not being much of a tech guy), I prefer using options like 1shoppingcart. However there is a monthly fee there.
One thing you can do with what you have is just take people to a thank you page that has an aweber form on it along with some text that tells your new customers to enter their name and email address so you can send them their music, or process their order, or whatever reason you can come up with. Then they would be added to the customer list and the list can send them their tracks. It adds one step but still gets the job done, and it's after the order so it really doesn't cut into sales. Just ups your support a bit because some people don't follow instructions very well and you need to watch for that and follow up with those people to remind them to register. This is actually the approach I take with MMM.

Ok. The drag is I can't really implement a proper upsell and downsell strategy with Cart66. I did find this plugin while researching - WordPress Ultra Simple Paypal Shopping Cart. Wonder if anyone has been using this in the IC or heard positive or negative reviews on it.
There's also this one as well. WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart Plugin I'm trying to figure out which shopping cart plug in will allow me to use PayPal's redirect feature for each product so I can create upsell pages linked to specific products I'm selling.
Hey Arif,
I have personally only used 1shoppingcart and Paypal so I can't comment on the plugin... But why do you feel you can't create the upsell offer? So long as the plugin redirects to a designated thank you page after purchase (on a per product bases) you can offer the upsell, and I'd be very surpised to hear that a popular plugin like cart66 doesn't do that. It's pretty standard. All you would do is create an upsell sales page witth a "wait, you're not done" message at the top, with a "no thanks, I'd like to get my album now" link at the bottom and then redirect to that page as if it was the thank you page, after ordering. Then once the order was completed (whether they took the upsell or not, you would take them to a thank you page that asked them to re-enter their name and email address, thus signing up to your customer list and getting your download. Make sense?

Thanks for the reply. Cart66 only redirects to ONE page after purchase for the entire shopping cart. So no matter what product I sell it will always go to the same landing page. So it's not a per product basis in this case. No opportunity for several upsell, downsell pages. Also, Cart66 blocks the Aweber IPN from working with PayPal. It won't add new buyers to my Aweber list(s). I went to the Cart66 forum and someone from their team stated their plugin can't really handle upsell pages. What seems to be the best option is the way you've laid it out using PayPal buttons. Full flexibility on the redirects based on the product the buyer chooses. Been researching shopping cart plugins for a few days and the only one that seems to almost do what you're doing is WordPress eStore plugin It syncs with Aweber and even allows you to put buyers on specific lists you decide based on product(s) they buy. But it doesn't seem like I can have more than one overall "thank you" landing page just like Cart66. Just one thank you page that redirects ALL sales to it. Their suggestion for upsells are sending the buyer to another page on the way to checkout. Let's say the buyer clicks to purchase a CD. It then takes them to a new page showing their cart with the CD in it plus whatever item I choose (the upsell) as a suggestion for them to purchase also. So they haven't purchased yet and they're seeing an upsell offer so to speak. Not quite what your teaching. It seems like the lesson works perfectly if you're specifically selling a few products with their own unique paypal button but I can't figure out how to integrate this using a WP shopping cart plugin.
So, I'm thinking I need to scrap the WP shoppingcart plugin idea and build a store on my WP site that only uses PayPal buttons and Paypal shopping cart. It seems every shopping cart plugin overrides any PayPal buttons that I create within my PayPal business account. I'm going to reach out to Scott James and see if he can build something for me or suggest a workaround.
Sounds good Re: reaching out to Scott. I definitely would NOT take someone to another sales page before checkout. The whole point of an upsell is to go for another sale AFTER someone has already made a smaller purchase. if you take them to another offer before checking out, you run a serious risk of the person leaving altogether without paying. I would personally either stick with Paypal, or go with something more robust like 1shoppingcart. But if you find another workaround that's great. Very surprised that Cart66 is that limited.

Yes, it's strange that Cart66 is that way but after quite a bit of shopping cart research it seems all the lower paying plugins operate that way. One catchall thank you page per account. Looking forward to seeing what Scott can do. Thanks!
Square has an online sales component now in addition to being useful for live sales. We use it at http://www.sunspotuniverse.com/rock and we haven't had an issue with it yet. You could build some upsell items specifically for your deal and then embed them in the page they go after the sale is completed.
Also just FYI, while this solution is still probably two or three months away, I currently have a total website solution for musicians in development. It will include hosting, a wide variety of templates, an eCommerce solution, and a few other bells and whistles I want to keep under my hat for now. Might not be ready in time to meet your needs, but might work for you down the line.
