I'm going to be designing a music website  using wordpress. (It's just a regular music website, not a squeeze page.)  I would love some opinions on good themes and plugins for music websites and any other advice about building a music website/blog on wordpress.

Thanks

Oh boy....I went through this a few months back, and it was quite a learning experience! Somewhere in this forum are lots of post I made, and also lots of help I recieved from other members that may help you. But after doing this on my own, I strongly suggest that you hire a pro, (like Scott James, a forum member) save yourself tons of grief and time, and use that time to work on new music or booking gigs instead of trying to build your own site. I literally spent 5 days and nights putting mine together, and it still needs a ton of work!

OK......I did my duty and tried to persuade you, but if you really want to do it yourself, just remember, I tried to warn you!Wink

I must have gone through at least 50 or 60 different Wordpress themes, and the one that I found the easiest to work with by far was called "Suffusion". If you want to see an example, my website still uses that theme. http://www.gregparke.com

Good luck!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Hey Annie,

There are a TON of music themes out there. Scott James and I are working on one right now. Email me at john@www.mmmanifesto.com if you want to see a demo. I don't want to post it publicly yet as we are still working on it. I currently use Thesis. It's a great theme but i find it confusing as it uses hooks instead of standard html. ithemes.com has some good themes and they are great to work with and really easy to use.

Thanks John and Greg!

Greg - don't worry. I'm actually a graphic designer and have already used wordpress for myself. I'm helping someone else build a music site and am just looking for advice on themes that people like since there are SO many out there.

Hi guys. I have just managed to install an aweber optin form into the side bar of my wordpress site. The problem is, half of the optin form has now been cut off. Does anyone know how to solve this please?

I'm not sure, but maybe you have to make the opt in form width smaller.

Hi ekow,

I think I had the same problem, and with me it was caused by too much text in the opt in box. It appears that the box only allows one line of text, and if that line gets too long, the text spills out of the box and gets cut off. Frustrating, but maybe they found that a short, right to the point message has the best results?

Annie is right. You're going to either need to change the size of your web form, or expand the sidebar to accommodate it. Either can be done.

Thanks guys-I have discovered the problem-I had ticked the facebook integration option, which sets a specific width dimension. Un ticked now, and all's good-I mention the details incase anyone else had ticked the same box...
