I've had a couple people ask me how I got a red "free download" button on the front page of my facebook. It is quite eye-catching. Or, at least as eye-catching as it can be with the new facebook timeline layout. If you want to see what it looks like, it's here: http://www.facebook.com/LangerMusic

Before you can put the red button on, you need to get your squeeze page in facebook. It's not hard. This is from John on how to do the squeeze page in facebook. I hope he doesn't mind me re-posting this here. After you read this, I'll tell you how to put a red download button on your front page:

1. Search Facebook apps for "static html: Iframs tabs" (the icon has a star on it)
2. Install it by clicking "add to my page".
3. Add it to your desired page.
4. Head over to the page you are adding it to and you should see the star icon and a welcome tab in the left side bar.
5. Click on the welcome tab and it will bring you to an edit tab.
6. Copy your html code for the landing into the first box (I'll talk about how to create that in a sec).
7. There is also a "fans only" option if you want to create a reveal tab.
8. You can tick a box to prevent scroll bars from appearing (recommended). You can tick the box to shrink your text to size
9. You can also import a web page directly but you will have scroll bars.
10. You only have 520 pixels to work with without shrinking.
11. To change the name of the tab go back to your apps and click edit settings for this app specifically.
12. To create your landing page just go to Seamonkey and create a web page that is 520 pixels wide. Use the html editor features that you should be familiar with by now and just copy the html and paste it in your app.
13. Host any images on your server and make sure you put the right location in your html code.

Ok. Now the red button… If you go to Admin Panel -> Manage -> Edit Page -> Apps -> Static HTML:iframe tabs -> Edit Settings -> Custom Tab Image (whew, that's convoluted!), you can upload an image. I made my own red button. If you want it, you can download it from here.

Thanks for posting that for everyone Charley. I've searched for my own post a dozen times trying to avoid typing it out. Just saved it to a file from yours 🙂

Cheers.

Hey Julianna, there is a tutorial video in the members area on how to set it up. You need to use an app to display it on a page. You can't just plug it into a post of that's what you're asking. The app is customizeable though and you can customize the little block that appears at the top of your page.

If you need additional help than please email support on this.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that red download button much earlier but somehow got sidetracked. It's really snazzy!
Thanks for posting how to do this!

Is anyone else running into this problem and can you recommend a fix: when I paste my squeeze page code into the static html page, I lose all the formatting so it looks like crap. I also can't include a video even though the video is public and something I've posted to facebook in the past. How do I get my squeeze page to look good on facebook? Thanks!!! Julianna

Somehow I wasn't getting the notifications in my email box that you guys were responding. Or I am just on email overload. One of the two. Anyway...I can't respond this weekend...I'm too busy here at the insane asylum...but I'll get back to ya! Or you get back to me!!! LOL

You can't just copy and paste code from one page to another. That won't usually work at all because of different dimensions, missing root folders, etc. You'd need your code to be made specifically for the new dimensions of the fan page and you'd need to host various files elsewhere so that the code could access all the needed info and images. This stuff makes my head hurt and I usually just hire someone. But I'm sure Charley can share how he did it when he has a sec.

Julianna, the problem is that you are referencing a style sheet that is relative to your squeeze page. Without giving you more information than you need, I have a temporary, but imperfect solution.  Take all the code out of static html and simply paste this:

<script>

location.href = "http://www.music-of-love.com/"

</script>

It's temporary and imperfect because there will be some scroll bars. However, with the changes in Facebook, they have given us a lot more room to work with, and the amount of scrolling is not nearly as bad as it was. However, I am going to take my squeeze page and modify it slightly so that it fits in the static html app without any scrolling. I am going to do this when I have time (probably not until June), but I am going to do it. When I've done it, I'll give everyone what I've done as a template. I just can't do it now.

Here's mine for now (with scroll bars): http://www.facebook.com/LangerMusic.
